A Band that is Making Its Way to the Head of the Class
Posted: 06 Aug 2009 | Monica
If you haven't yet heard of the rising foursome, you soon will. The band Honor Society is catching the attention of concert-goers everywhere this summer, as the opening act on the Jonas Brothers World Tour.
As evidenced by the amount of singing fans during their performances--which they like to call parties--Honor Society already has quite the following. Their fan base has been built, in large part, through My Space, where the band has had millions of page views and plays. It doesn't hurt
that Honor Society has been promoted by the Jonas Brothers and are managed by the Jonas Group, either.
With all this association with Jonas Brothers, one would think that the band might be a replica of the aforementioned trio. That is hardly the case. Michael Bruno (lead vocals, guitar), Jason Rosen (vocals, keyboard, guitar), Andrew Lee (vocals, bass guitar, keyboard), and Alexander Noyes (drums) are proving themselves as a band with a unique rock/hip hop vibe that is somewhat reminiscent of eighties pop, with just a twist of R&B thrown in for good measure. Michael Bruno describes the music as "if Justin Timberlake had a rock band".
I recently witnessed the frenzy of enthusiastic fans during Honor Society's opening gig on the Jonas Brothers World Tour. Females of all ages were doing the "Honor Roll", a dance created to go along with the catchy lyrics of "See U in the Dark". Honor Society dazzled the audience with their songs "Full Moon Crazy", "Two Rebels", and "Over You". They slowed it down a bit with the song "Where Are You Now", a melody from the upcoming movie soundtrack for Bandslam, which releases in August 2009.
Not only are Honor Society touring as the Jonas Brothers' opening act, they are also headlining their own tour at the same time. The "Full Moon Crazy" tour is taking place in select cities, happening mostly after the Jonas Brothers concert is finished for the evening. Honor Society will be performing at places such as House of Blues in California, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio.
The members of Honor Society are meeting as many fans as possible on this tour. Fans in select places have been meeting up with the band at scheduled promotional autograph signings at Verizon Wireless stores. USA Pears is partnering with Honor Society for this tour and giving away tickets and meet and greet passes for the shows through sweepstakes on the site. Verizon is also giving away meet and greet passes outside the venues for a select amount of fans who can do the "Honor Roll". But that's not all. At the venue, fans can pre-order Honor Society's upcoming album Fashionably Late (which drops September 15, 2009) enabling them to meet the band right after the World Tour concert performances are over.
Rolling Stone recently named Honor Society one of the "Breakout Bands to Watch". Now that I've heard Honor Society's acoustic tunes on You Tube, through My Space Music, and live in concert, I would have to agree that they will most definitely be climbing the charts in no time.

Hey HS Crew!
What an amazing week! It feels like we are living full lives in every day and loving it...
First, a big thank you to everyone that has been coming out to see us at our Full Moon Crazy shows. If has been so incredible to party and meet so many of you all across the country. In New York, we played the Blender Theater at Gramercy and you sold it out!
The tour rolled on to Pennsylvania where we had two servings of the HS Philly crew... First with Jordin Sparks and the Jonas Brothers and then at the FMC show! We then hit the dance floor with all of you... Gayne Wetsky made an appearance... no big deal. The next morning, we were in Pittsburgh, chilling in the Igloo. Backstage, we were all looking for the Stanley Cup... we were not successful in the quest for the cup. Pennsylvania was live all three nights. Thank you to everyone that made it out to those shows.
From there we rolled into Detroit and were up bright and early rocking Clutch Cargo's with all of you... it was one of the HOTTEST shows that we have ever played. When we finished and got back on the bus, we all looked at each other and were like 'that room was electric!' The show at the Palace at Auburn Hills was no different. You guys brought it all day!
We left Detroit on cloud nine and caught a flight back to NYC to shoot our album cover... which was sooooo crazy! We checked into the hotel at 3AM and were up at 6:30AM to drive to the location! We were all exhausted, but the shots were so incredible that it kept us on fire all day long. None of us could go to sleep... we can't wait for you all to see the pictures...we are so proud of them.
Tuesday was another early morning, but as soon as we touched down in St. Louis, we knew it was ON! We partied under the arches all night long! hahaha. Kansas City had the same vibe. Thanks to everyone that made the cross-state trip to see the show both nights.
Thursday we got on another flight... this time to the Bahamas! On Friday we played the Miss Teen USA pageant, before jumping back into tour. We love you Irvine and Anaheim!
Only one month of tour left! We NEED to see you... We still have a handful of FMC shows left and even more surprises. Don't sleep on this tour. Ask NYC; ask Philly; ask Detroit... we are not in the business of disappointing you, hahaha. We promise you an awesome night... Be there.
YG, HS

The Honor Roll isn't Just About Academics Anymore
Posted: 04 Aug 2009 | Monica
Honor Society, newest addition to the Jonas Brothers' new label, are in the middle of their "Full Moon Crazy" tour. I was able to go to the meet and greet in Irvine, then onto the concert at the House of Blues in Anaheim.
The fun started outside of the Verizon Wireless store at the Irvine Spectrum, where over a hundred fans came out to meet the band. There were concert ticket giveaways, "Verizon commercial" contests, and "Honor Roll" demonstrations (the Honor Roll is a dance invented by the band to go along with one of their most popular songs, "See U in the Dark").
It was really fun to see the fans so excited - it seemed like the fanbase was a bit older than expected, looking like late teens, mostly.

The signing began at 2PM and ended at around 3PM. Even after the signing, fans gathered outside of the store doors to have a last moment with the band.

The HOB's doors opened at 7:30, but my cousin and I were let in early, due to an injury she has. We were given seats on the balcony, which was pretty cool.
The show opened with an upcoming girl band, Carebears on Fire. They were... interesting. Not my cup of tea, but I thought they were talented and had potential to be something pretty great.
Of course, when Honor Society came out, everyone got crazy. The energy in the venue was absolutely amazing right off the bat, and it was obvious the guys were feeling it.
I'd only seen the band once before while they opened for the Jonas Brothers, so this was my first time going to actually see them. I remembered them being great live, but this time, they were fantastic. I can't explain what it was, but it was like watching a completely different band.

I would consider them one of the most fun bands to see live - you'll dance, sing, and ooh and ahh at Alex's mad drumstick skills.

One of my favorite moments of the night was, of course, See U in the Dark. I could see the floor crowd from where I was sitting, and it's so crazy to see the ENTIRE floor trying to do the Honor Roll while squished together! (I got a video of this, which I'll be posting soon)
Michael, Alex, Andrew, and Jason are also crazy about their fans. They go all out to meet fans and throw parties for them. I mean it. Over the past couple months, they've thrown PPP's - Pinkberry Parking Lot Parties at various locations.
During the show last night, they announced they were going to have a dance party after the show. I laughed, saying, now wouldn't that be crazy? Well, they did.

I would definitely recommend seeing Honor Society live. I don't consider them like the Jonas Brothers, so if you can't stand the JB, don't dismiss Honor Society just yet. I always have a hard time categorizing music, but I'd liken them to Simple Plan, with a mix of Young Love. It's dancey pop rock and it's super fun :]
If you were a band, would you go out of your way to throw parties for fans, just to hang out with them? Or would meet and greets be enough?
