'Bandslam' Soundtrack

Posted: 18 Jul 2009 | Monica

In addition to Honor Society's performance, scenes from Vanessa Hudgens-starring film 'Bandslam' are also made available to see in 'Where Are You Now' music video.

A music video promoting "Where Are You Now", a "Bandslam" soundtrack performed by Honor Society, has just made its round. It sees the band performing the song near a swimming pool with captures from the Vanessa Hudgens-starring movie being featured in between the performance scene.

Beside having a song from Honor Society, "Bandslam" soundtrack compilation set will also include tracks from Vanessa Hudgens, David Bowie, The Velvet Underground, Peter Bjorn and 78violet which was formerly known as Aly & AJ.

The soundtrack album is expected to hit U.S. market on August 11. Meanwhile, the Summit Entertainment movie which is about a girl who wants to take revenge on her egotistical musician ex-boyfriend by beating him on battle of the bands is slated for August 14 U.S. release.

I know most of you have seen this video already but you should watch it again!

Honor Society On 2 tours at once

Posted: 18 Jul 2009 | Monica

As if being the opening act for the summer's largest tour isn't enough.

Honor Society is a pop-rock quartet from New Jersey which is supporting the Jonas Brothers on the group's world tour. But today Honor Society also kicks off a simultaneous solo tour on which it will play full sets at club-sized venues in the same cities on the same days as the Jonas shows.

The tour is dubbed the ''Full Moon Crazy'' tour, after one of the group's songs. The group will be at at Arthur F. Couch Performing Arts Center in Secaucus, N.J., on Tuesday for a matinee, and then at the Theater of the Living Arts in Philadelphia for a late night show after the July 23 date at the Wachovia Center.

Not only that, but it was announced this week that Honor Society is the first act signed to Jonas Records, a label the brothers have started with Hollywood Records.

''We just wanted to get the most out of this summer possible,'' bassist Andrew Lee says. ''Obviously the shows with the Jonas Brothers are an incredible, incredible experience, an incredible platform, and such a huge party. We really thought every great party deserves a great after-party, so why not throw up these after-shows?

''We saw Justin Timberlake do it a few years ago with 'N Snyc -- he went out and did his club shows and it was awesome. And so we kind of took a cue from that and, again, we're just trying to get the most out of this summer as possible and reach the most people and meet all of the fans and do it up right.''

The second tour raises questions, such as how the group will get from sold-out arenas to the clubs -- in Philadelphia's case, through notorious South Philly traffic -- especially since the group stays at the Jonas venues to do meet-and-greets and take a final bow at the show's end. (Reports say Honor Society sometimes also joins the Jonases on stage for a song.)

''We're going to do a quick exit,'' Lee says. ''We're going to literally run offstage, and run right into a car and jet off to the next venue.'' Because Honor Society travels on its own bus and has its own crew, the club stage can be set up while the Jonas Brothers concert is going on.

Two tours at a time also might seem like is a recipe for burnout, but Honor Society keyboardist Jason Rosen, who's also on the call, laughs off the suggestion: ''Uh, no, we're young guys and we got lots of energy. Nah, it shouldn't be an issue.''

''It's a jam-packed night,'' Lee concedes. ''It's going to be long days, long nights and a lot of them right in a row. We want to be busy and so we're creating work for ourselves, but we love it.''

In truth, the group has been busy for the past year and a half. Lee, Rosen and singer/guitarist Michael Bruno had played New York clubs for a couple of years before being joined by Alex Noyes, who had been a drummer for the Jonases.

Since announced as the Jonases' opening act this spring, Honor Society's MySpace page has gotten nearly 4 million hits.

The Jonases alone are helping produce the band's debut album, to be released Sept. 15, and co-wrote some of the songs. A MySpace video for the first single, ''Where Are You Now,'' is due out Tuesday.

''This is a bigger, better version of the Honor Society that everybody has grown to know and love,'' Lee says.

KISS 108 kicked off this weekend's Jonas Brothers mania with a Joe Jonas meet-and-greet yesterday with 10 lucky listeners at Logan Airport. Kevin and Nick were stuck in New York, but Joe made the scene and invited the winners to a special soundcheck before tomorrow night's show...Meanwhile, the boys in Honor Society, one of the Jonas Brothers's opening acts, were busy posing for pics with fans yesterday at Regal Fenway Theater

Hey, the Jonas Bros. are the second act

Posted: 17 Jul 2009 | Melody

Once upon a time, a drummer from Chestnut Ridge named Alexander Noyes performed around northern New Jersey with his buddies Kevin, Joe and Nick.

Noyes went on to Ramapo College in Mahwah, N.J.

His friends changed the name of the band from Sons of Jonas to the Jonas Brothers, opened for Miley Cyrus' "Hannah Montana" tour and became superstars.

Now Noyes and his current band, Honor Society, is living a pop-culture dream, opening this summer for the Jonas Brothers' North American tour.

The band - Noyes, 23, former New City pals Michael Bruno, 29, and Jason Rosen, 30, and upstater Andrew Lee, 29 - is also doing a parallel solo tour called Full Moon Crazy. The next Full Moon Crazy performance is Wednesday at Gramercy Theatre in Manhattan.

Honor Society, with nearly 3 million plays on its Myspace page, signed July 7 with the Jonas Records label that's part of Hollywood Records. "Fashionably Late" is due out Sept. 15.

"We'll play most of the album," Noyes said on the phone while riding to the Allstate Arena in Chicago to open for the Jonas Brothers.

"All that we brought out of Rockland culminates in the record," Noyes said. He credits choir director Lynne Bearman, who taught him at Chestnut Ridge Middle School, and Sharon Augsburger who taught at Eastern Christian Middle School and High School in northern New Jersey.

Bruno and Rosen went to Clarkstown North High School and participated in the Battle of the Bands and RocklandFest - though back then, Rosen played trumpet for music teacher Patrick Magliano II. Bruno also credits "Marty Celay, one of the most amazing music instructors, who taught us guitar."

Rosen is the son of Jack Rosen, who's been involved with the Clarkstown Summer Theater Festival since 1989. The proud dad said, "It's crazy, I never thought this day would come. It's wonderful for the guys, they worked hard to get where they are.

"Jason always showed an affinity for music," his father said. "He did two Clarkstown Summer Theater Festival shows: 'Babes in Arms' and 'Hello, Dolly.' He played mandolin and guitar in 'Fiddler on the Roof'' as a volunteer in the pit."

Honor Society is "not the next Jonas Brothers," Jack Rosen is quick to say. "They're older, their songs are more sophisticated. They are friends with the Jonas Brothers, but they're a different group because they're older."

Honor Society appreciates the Jonas Brothers' support and the national platform - and arena venues - the band is enjoying this summer, but remembers its local fans.

"We played at Olive's (in Nyack), built up a fan base and we want to keep that intimacy," Jason Rosen said. To do that, they use Twitter, Facebook and Myspace, in addition to the tours and appearances.

"We built a fan base on Myspace and now that we're touring, we get to run into people who have become fans and we get to put faces to the names," Noyes said.

"We love hanging with our fans; we look forward to it," Rosen said. "We hang out and party with them."

The party at Gramercy Theatre will feature funky, upbeat rock and R&B-style music. It's the kind of music that got Rolling Stone to flag Honor Society as a "breakout band to watch" after last May's Bamboozle at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, N.J.

For all the heady reviews and affiliation with the Jonas Brothers, they try to keep things in perspective.

"For the most part we're all with our hometown best friends," Bruno said. Rosen added, "We're documenting [the tour] and writing about it. I read in my bunk, take a run."

Rosen said they're excited to be back home for a while. He promised the Wednesday show will be "high-energy and a lot of fun."

"You don't want to miss the show," Bruno said. "We always keep some stuff up our sleeves. You don't want to be the one who stayed home."
