Honor Society on Two Tours at Once
Posted: 11 Jul 2009 | Melody
Jul. 11--As if being the opening act for the summer's largest tour isn't enough.
Honor Society is a pop-rock quartet from New Jersey which is supporting the Jonas Brothers on the group's world tour. But today Honor Society also kicks off a simultaneous solo tour on which it will play full sets at club-sized venues in the same cities on the same days as the Jonas shows.
The tour is dubbed the "Full Moon Crazy" tour, after one of the group's songs. The group will be at at Arthur F. Couch Performing Arts Center in Secaucus, N.J., on Tuesday for a matinee, and then at the Theater of the Living Arts in Philadelphia for a late night show after the July 23 date at the Wachovia Center.
Not only that, but it was announced this week that Honor Society is the first act signed to Jonas Records, a label the brothers have started with Hollywood Records.
"We just wanted to get the most out of this summer possible," bassist Andrew Lee says. "Obviously the shows with the Jonas Brothers are an incredible, incredible experience, an incredible platform, and such a huge party. We really thought every great party deserves a great after-party, so why not throw up these after-shows?
"We saw Justin Timberlake do it a few years ago with 'N Snyc -- he went out and did his club shows and it was awesome. And so we kind of took a cue from that and, again, we're just trying to get the most out of this summer as possible and reach the most people and meet all of the fans and do it up right."
The second tour raises questions, such as how the group will get from sold-out arenas to the clubs -- in Philadelphia's case, through notorious South Philly traffic -- especially since the group stays at the Jonas venues to do meet-and-greets and take a final bow at the show's end. (Reports say Honor Society sometimes also joins the Jonases on stage for a song.)
"We're going to do a quick exit," Lee says. "We're going to literally run offstage, and run right into a car and jet off to the next venue." Because Honor Society travels on its own bus and has its own crew, the club stage can be set up while the Jonas Brothers concert is going on.
Two tours at a time also might seem like is a recipe for burnout, but Honor Society keyboardist Jason Rosen, who's also on the call, laughs off the suggestion: "Uh, no, we're young guys and we got lots of energy. Nah, it shouldn't be an issue."
"It's a jam-packed night," Lee concedes. "It's going to be long days, long nights and a lot of them right in a row. We want to be busy and so we're creating work for ourselves, but we love it."
In truth, the group has been busy for the past year and a half. Lee, Rosen and singer/guitarist Michael Bruno had played New York clubs for a couple of years before being joined by Alex Noyes, who had been a drummer for the Jonases.
Since announced as the Jonases' opening act this spring, Honor Society's MySpace page has gotten nearly 4 million hits.
The Jonases alo are helping produce the band's debut album, to be released Sept. 15, and co-wrote some of the songs. A MySpace video for the first single, "Where Are You Now," is due out Tuesday.
"This is a bigger, better version of the Honor Society that everybody has grown to know and love," Lee says.

Jonas Brothers start own record label, sign Honor Society
Posted: 11 Jul 2009 | Melody
A week after the Jonas Brothers announced their eldest member, 21-year-old Kevin, was engaged to be married, they’ve made another big announcement.
No, 19-year-old Joe isn’t getting married. Nor is 16-year-old Nick.
But they have entered a relationship with another entity – a business entity.
The brothers have started their own record label, which will be associated with Hollywood Records, the Disney label on which they have recorded their past three albums. The Jonas Brothers will continue to record on Hollywood, and a name hasn't been chosen for the new label yet, said Heather Davis, Hollywood's director of publicity, said in e-mails.
The Jonases announced the new label on their MySpace blog, and revealed they have signed their first artist, New Jersey-based pop group Honor Society, who also happens to be the opening act for their current world tour.
“You have heard us talk about them before and we hope that you have seen them at one of our shows. IT IS OFFICIAL! We started a record label with our friends at Hollywood Records and HONOR SOCIETY is the first to be signed!,” the brothers said on the MySpace page.
No other details of the new label’s connection to Hollywood were given.
Honor Society’s members said on their MySpace page and on their Twitter accounts that their new album, apparently still untitled, will be released on Sept. 15 on what they referred to as "Jonas Reords.'
The group’s first music video, for the song “Where Are You Now?” will premiere Tuesday on MySpace, the Honor Society members said. The song also will be used in the movie “Bandslam,” a teen musical comedy starring Disney star Vanessa Hudgins and former “Friends” star Lisa Kudrow. The film is scheduled to hit theaters Aug. 14. (The soundtrack will be on Hollywood Records).
The Jonas Brothers and Honor Society play sold-out shows at Wachovia Arena in Philadelphia on July 23 and 24. Honor Society also is playing a parallel solo tour, The Full Moon Crazy tour, that hits Philly's Theater of Living Arts after the Wachovia Concert at 11 p.m. July 23.
The Jonas family has had its own management company, which represents not only Honor Society but Demi Lovato, star of the movie “Camp Rock” and the Disney Channel show “Sonny With a Chance.”
Honor Society had a played for a couple of years around New York clubs, including under the name Airborne, before two years ago being joined by drummer Alex Noyes, whose previous gig was as drummer for the Jonas Brothers. Honor Society a year ago put out an EP, “A Tale of Risky Business,” that found its way to the Jonases, who enlisted the group as openers

Honor Society learns the rock-star ropes
Posted: 09 Jul 2009 | Melody
The band Honor Society is on two tours at the same time. The quartet is joining Jordin Sparks as an opening act for the Jonas Brothers' arena tour, which comes to the Izod Center in East Rutherford on Tuesday and Wednesday. Simultaneously, it is headlining its own "Full Moon Crazy Tour," which consists of shows in the same areas the Jonas Brothers hit.
On Tuesday, for instance, the band -- which plays catchy pop-rock music and power ballads like the Jonas Brothers -- will perform in Secaucus in the afternoon, then head over to the Meadowlands. And on July 22, the day after the Jonas Brothers complete a three-night stand at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, Honor Society will headline at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom.
Proving that there is no rest for an up-and-coming rock band, on Thursday -- a rare day off for the Jonas Brothers -- Honor Society will open for Mitchel Musso at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson.
The band, which is based in Midland Park, has not released an album yet. But as proteges of the Jonas Brothers -- drummer Alexander Noyes used to be a member of the Jonases' touring band, and the group will release its album on a new label the Jonases are creating -- Honor Society has a built-in following.
The band's songs have received more than 3 million plays on its MySpace page (MySpace.com/HonorSociety). Helping to build buzz, the Jonas Brothers made a cameo appearance at Honor Society's February show at the Fillmore at Irving Plaza in New York.
The band only gets to play four songs at Jonas Brothers shows. But at its own gigs, says Noyes, "It's going to be a full set of Honor Society music. There's a lot more leeway in the set, in what songs we're going to be doing. We'll do all the songs off of our album, which comes out this fall, and a lot of cover songs."
When Noyes left the Jonas Brothers about three years ago, he didn't do it to join Honor Society. He actually left the band, which had not yet become a pop phenomenon, to attend Ramapo College of New Jersey, in Mahwah. But a year later, Honor Society members Michael Bruno (vocals, guitar), Jason Rosen (keyboards, guitar) and Andrew Lee (bass) were looking for a drummer, and a mutual friend introduced them to Noyes.
"They invited me to an audition, and I showed up, and we really clicked musically," he says. "So we decided to make Honor Society the new project."
The Jonas Brothers, music-business veterans despite their youth, have provided both professional and personal advice.
"From the performing aspect, I think the biggest piece of advice is, when you go out onstage, and there's anywhere from 15,000 to 40,000 people who are pumped to be there, listening to your music, you have to know how to pace yourself, pace your energy onstage, to give the best performance possible," says Bruno.
He adds that the brothers have helped Honor Society learn "how to reach everyone -- all the way at the top, all the way in the back -- and how to give people an experience they'll remember."
