Tommy2.net Review

A rockin’ good time. Last night Honor Society brought their Fashionably Late Tour to the State Theater in St. Petersburg, FL and they really brought it. The tour is now in the final stretch and Alex, Andrew, Jason and Michael looked to be in full stride with a show that brought more emotion out of their music and stage show. Major kudos to Jason Rosen who appears to have come out of his shell proving to be quite the entertainer and even handled lead vocals on a impressive cover of Use Somebody by Kings Of Leon. As always, Michael was rock solid on vocals and lead guitar, while Alex and Andrew made sure to keep the audience excited at all times. Although, Andrew has yet to break out the new Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones 5 bass (tonight, he plans on using it live for the first time in Fort Lauderdale). The crowd of about 200 was definitely a key component of the show and proved it during the sing-along of Where Are You Now. If you get a chance, you’ll definitely want to see this show before the tour is over.

Honor Society – Runtime 55 Minutes

Pros: The band keeps getting better with each show.

Cons: Bad sound and lighting, the same song order since the first night of the tour. Meet and Greets require you to purchase a shirt or be in the fan club.
Best song: Where Are You Now

1. Full Moon Crazy

2. Sing For You

3. Two Rebels

4. Where Are You Now

5. My Own Way

6. Use Somebody (Kings Of Leon)*

7. Here Comes Trouble

8. Don’t Close The Book

9. Why Didn’t I

10. Nobody Has To Know

11. Over You

12. See U In The Dark

*Featuring Jason Rosen on lead vocals

Holla Back Crew

Posted: 10 Nov 2009 | Melody

Holla Back Crew!

We officially brought the FL tour to the FL! Hahaha. Silverado was burning down the Florida highways! It seemed like the perfect time to catch you guys up on what has been happening with everything HS...

First up: Our brand new video for "Over You" premiered on AOL Music TODAY...Check it out!! And tomorrow it'll be featured on the MySpace homepage! We are really proud of it and so happy to finally share it with all of you. Thank you for the support!

The tour has been incredible since we last left you... there was a crazy show in Salt Lake City at the Murray Theater (we included a picture for your viewing pleasures) where we partied with all of you and our new friend David Archuleta, who came out to see the show. The party continued on to Denver, CO where things were hoootttt inside the Bluebird Theater although it was freezing outside! Thank you to every one that braved the bitter cold and a big shout out to everyone from Erie High School that came. Next was Kansas, where we did a radio show with KRZZ 96.3 in a cornfield!!! A cornfield!!! It was awesome... seriously check out the pictures, they had a haunted maze and everything! Thanks to everyone that came out that show. We continued on our tour of Kansas with a stop in Lawrence, where we visited the KU campus and the Delta Gamma sorority house for a quick acoustic performance. Thank to all the DG girls! Our next stop was St. Louis, where our fans waited outside in the pouring rain! THANK YOU guys! It was one of the hottest shows of the tour. The HS Crew was out in full force!

The tour took a little break after the St. Louis show and we flew out to New York City to play the CBS Early Show!

The day started at 4AM when we woke up for lobby call. We were greeted at the studio by a couple of fans dressed up as us for Halloween! Hahaha! It was like seeing myself in a mirror! We got in a sound checked for about an hour before going into hair and make-up... which was an adventure. We decided that for Halloween, we wanted to do something special... so we decided to get a little 'Twilight' on it... I am talking Robbie Pattinson-style. Hahaha. Full out pale perfection, with some creepy red blood shot eyes and big hair! The show looked and sounded great and we were able to play 'Over You' AND 'See U In The Dark' on air. It was one of the coolest things we have ever got the chance to do! If you haven't seen the Early Show performance, you should totally check it out on youtube!

After touching down in Detroit after our CBS Early Show excursion, we rolled up to Clutch Cargo's to a SOLD OUT show in Pontiac! It was pretty much the most unbelievable way to kick off the second half of the tour! Thank you to everyone that came out to that show and gave the Fashionably Late tour its seventh sold out show... we are so humbled to have such incredible fans all across the country... you are incredible!

From Detroit we continued south to Cleveland, OH where we started the day bright and early on the Fox 8 morning show... Kickin' It With Kenny and the rest of the Fox 8 anchors! After tv we rolled over to a special acoustic performance for USA Pears and the 'A Child Again' program, where we got to meet some unbelievable kids and their families. From there we headed to 96.5 KISS FM for another intimate acoustic performance in the studio with about a dozen radio winners... thank you to everyone over at KISS 96.5 for putting all of that together. It was a great warm-up for our show at the Cleveland House of Blues... which if you were wondering, was on-fire... like literally actually on-fire... like hooottttt!

Needless to say, Detroit Rock City and Cleveland, home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where ready to party!

The tour rolled on to Cincinnati where we got invited to the studio with Jordan over at KISS 107! Every time we go to Cincinnati, the crew over at KISS 107 is always so cool. Big shout out to Jordan and Tim for having us up to the studio and then coming out to 20th Century to catch the show! Cincinnati did not disappoint! It was ANOTHER incredible show and we are so happy that we got to share it with all of you!

We will catch up with all of you very soon... Charlotte we will see you tonight!

A whole lot of love for you all.

Your Gents,
Honor Society

Honor Society goes from Jonas openers to hot headliners

Posted: 10 Nov 2009 | Melody

New York-based pop-rock band Honor Society spent last summer opening for the Jonas Brothers’ hugely successful North American tour while simultaneously playing their own tour at smaller venues in the same cities.

Then in September, the band released its debut album, “Fashionably Late,” which shot up to No. 8 on the iTunes album chart and No. 2 on its Pop Album chart, and put four of its 12 songs in the iTune Top 100.

But it was at the end of September that “extended friends” told them they finally had made it: When they appeared on NBC-TV’s “Today” show.

“That was really big for us. We’re from New York, so it being filmed in New York, we had all of our friends and family like, ‘I can’t believe it!’” Honor Society drummer Alexander Noyes says, laughing, in a recent telephone call.

“They were like, ‘OK, now I’m impressed,’ ” Noyes says, laughing again. “And it’s like, ‘Oh thanks,’ we’ve done like all this other stuff and now you’re impressed.”

Those friends can continue to be impressed. Not only did the band subsequently make an appearance on the other New York-filmed morning show, CBS-TV’s “Early Show,” but today, AOL Music premieres the video for “Over You,” the second single from “Fashionably Late.”

Pollstar Magazine last week named the band its Hot Star, and in December, they’ll appear in the movie “Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.”

And squeezed in before all that, the band is headlining another tour, which stops at The Note in West Chester on Friday. They last were in the area in October, when they headlined the Rock The Fall festival at Blue Mountain Ski Area near Palmerton.

“It’s basically all in support of the record,” Noyes says. “We’re trying to bring it back to the fans. Our [Jonas] tour was such an incredible experience, and now we’re back out on tour and we just really want to see how our fans across the country like the record. We want to hang out and talk with them and see what’s going on with them.”

The band (and members stress they are a band; they play their own instruments – and well, if the Jonas and Rock The Fall shows were any indication) is deservedly proud of “Fashionably Late.” Honor Society describes it as a rock band playing pop music, and several of its tracks have the larger production that make the songs sound ready-made for arenas.

“We had already played a handful shows with the Jonases right at the beginning, even a little bit before we started recording the record,” Honor Society singer Michael Bruno says. “So I think it kind of just happens naturally – you start to write songs that you just think to yourself, and it’s not a super-conscious decision, but you think to yourself, ‘Wow, this is going to rock in front of 20,000 people or even 500 people.’ So I think those songs were probably, yeah, directly influenced by having some of those shows under our belts. But I think all the songs sort of have that quality where people can sing along and some are just so funky that you can get a crowd really up and dancing.”

Another contributing factor to the sound might have been that Honor Society is the first band signed to the Jonas Brothers’ new record label, and the brothers were executive producers on the album, with their producer, John Fields. But Noyes – who spent time as the Jonases’ drummer before joining Honor Society -- says any influence was collaborative.

“From the start, the day we met and the day they signed us, they never really wanted to change the band at all,” he says. “They had actually listened to one of the EPs we had done the year prior and they just really authentically liked the music, liked what we were doing, and so they didn’t really want to see us change in any direction, particularly.”

But Bruno does say Honor Society learned a lot touring with the Jonases.

“To play every night in front of 20,000 and upwards of 60,000 people, you have to start learning things,” he says. “And we did – we learned so much from Nick, Kevin and Joe on how to carry yourself and how to be on stage and how to command an audience of that size. And there’s no question that we’re going to take those lessons that we learned into [this] tour. So anyone that comes to any of those dates, they’re going to see, I think, a band that played arenas all summer.”

Playing their own concurrent Full Moon Crazy tour while opening for the Jonases also was an experience – a hectic and exhausting one, Bruno and Noyes say.

“Typically, our days would be morning television, a morning show, so that would usually kick off early in the morning, like 6 a.m,” Noyes says. “We’d be doing stuff all day, have the arena show with the Jonas Brothers and then our Full Moon Crazy shows wouldn’t even kick off till 11 or 11:30. One of the shows didn’t even start till, I think, 12:45. So we’d be getting to bed at 2 in the morning, 3 in the morning. And when you look back on it, in retrospect, I can’t believe we did it. I can’t believe we could physically do all that.”

Bruno laughs at the how the days went down: “It was just honestly so much fun. You feel like almost like James Bond or something – like this renegade. Do this huge arena show … and leave the arena and jet --literally jump in the van or the bus and be rocking over to the club and getting on stage and ripping a club show. I think it was really exhilarating, personally.”

The tight schedule even had the band getting a police escort to its club shows on a few occasions to make sure they could get through traffic.

And three or four times on the tour the Jonases joined Honor Society on stage or their club shows, and co-supporting act Jordan Sparks twice – both at Philly’s Theater of Living Arts.

“That’s the beauty of it,” Bruno says. “It’s sort of the thrill not only for us but for the audiences. Those are our friends, and when they’re in town, yeah, they could definitely show up. It was never anything super pre-meditated. A lot of times it was like, ‘Hey, we’re in the room,’ and we were like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it – jump up on stage.’ I think that’s the beauty of live music.”
